Podcast 22. Cerveza (Escuchar/ Listen)

Beer
In Spain you can drink beer from all over the world but if you go to a bar and order “a beer”, normally called “caña” or “corto” they serve you a national beer and the size is like a glass of water for the “caña” and like a glass of wine for the “corto”. We usually have beer in the afternoon, before or with lunch and in the evening before or with dinner. It’s unusual to have more than one in the same bar and we often eat something, “a tapa” which is a small quantity of cheese, olives, ham, etc.
I was worried because I used to drink “a caña” every day and may get fat but all my worries disappeared when I was in Dublin and realized that people there drink “pints”, that is half a litre of beer at any time of the day and always more than one while they are sitting in the pub talking to friends or listening to music. You can choose among 17 different kinds of beer in a normal pub in Dublin.
Definitely beer is good for health and you don’t gain weight drinking a glass of beer a day. If that rumour about the beer was true Dubliners wouldn’t be able to move.
So, if you like beer enjoy it, I’ll do it from now.
