Podcast 136. En Red. Social Nets (Escuchar/ Listen)

Social Nets

Find old friends that you have lost track of, meet people who life faraway or close to you, to find a job. Facebook offers you a whole world of opportunities. Social networking has never been faster or easier to use, despite there is a downside too.

Facebook users have become from 57 million to 300 million, in fact this net is growing so quickly that by the time you read this, those figures will probably be out of date.

Twitter is another social phenomenon, a net where people writes what they are doing, when you sign up the first sentence you read is this “ What are you doing now? From that moment you can talk to the world about your normal life, you can start twittering, it’s not necessary to write interesting things, it’s just what you are doing.

Will Carling, rugby placer, wrote “Listening to Coldplay while helping to get lunch ready for some mates who are around”. Liz Taylor is another devoted user who used the site to inform fans about private things like she was going to have an operation and wrote asking them to pray for her.

Teenagers in my country are very fond of tuenti, every student at school has his "tuenti" account and they write comments, upload pictures and keep informed about what is happening at school or in the town.

Mobile messages are also a good way to keep in contact, teenagers send about 30 a day, adults prefer Blacberry o Facebook, but teenagers and adults are used to be located and send messages using nets.

However, there are also disadvantages, we have to use our head, to show only the information we want to show and to be careful with comments and Pictures, every day we read stories abou people who have regreted for writing something or uploading some pictures.

All in all, social nets can make your life a lot easier or a lot more complicated, it’s up to you
