No vuelvas a perderte. Compraté un GPS
Hace unos meses leí este anuncio “No te pierdas nunca mas. Cómprate un GPS”, el anuncio también decía que el GPS no sólo te ayuda a planear la ruta sino que te marca los lugares más interesantes para visitar cuando llegas a una ciudad nueva o te da información sobre hoteles, restaurantes, etc.
Unos días más tarde un periódico local me ofrecía un GPS por un precio muy bajo comprando el periódico durante un mes, así que conseguí uno por 100 euros y los bonos de 30 periódicos, baratísimo sin duda.
Tan barato que no estoy muy segura de si se trata de un GPS no demasiado bueno o es que aún no se muy bien como sacarle todo el partido que el anuncio publicitaba.
De todos modos he de admitir que es sorprendente como sabe donde estas cuando lo enciendes o como planea la ruta a los pocos segundos de elegir un destino, incluso la recalcula si te equivocas o decides desviarte a la gasolinera y desde luego la chica que habla es de lo más agradable:
“Gire a la derecha” “Gire a la izquierda” “Continúe de frente” “ Entre en la autopista después de 200 metros” “ Entre en la rotonda” “Gire cuando sea posible” “Ha alcanzado su destino”.
Sin embargo tengo que decir que no me fío de ella y de sus indicaciones porque a veces me dice cosas sin sentido, como por ejemplo “ a 200 metros siga recto” cuando no hay otra posibilidad a no ser que quiera chocarme con el guardarail; o cuando me dice que tome la cuarta salida en una rotonda que sólo tiene tres, o me dice que gire a la derecha cuando estoy viendo un cartel enorme en la carretera que me indica la izquierda.
Antes miraba el mapa antes de hacer un viaje, ahora miro el mapa y programo el GPS y si se bien donde voy lo que hago es descargar la versión “Ingles con acento británico” y así practico un poco la comprensión oral, lo cual siempre es una ventaja.
Hay que ser positivo.

Some months ago I read this advertisement “ Stop getting lost. Buy a GPS”.
The advert also said that a GPS could tell you not only the best route but also the most interesting places to visit when you arrive in a new city or also it gives you information about hotels, restaurants, etc.
Some days later a local newspaper offered me one at a very low price for buying the newspaper for a whole month. I got it paying 100 euros plus the 30 newspaper bonus , cheap indeed.
So cheap that I’m not sure if it is a very good one or if I don’t know how to use it well.
Anyway I have to admit that it’s amazing how it knows where you are when you connect it or how it plans the route in just a few seconds after choosing a destination. It even reroutes you if you make a wrong turn or decide to go to the petrol station.
And of course, the girl who speaks is very nice. “Turn right” “Turn left” “ Continue ahead” “ Enter the highway in 200 metres” “ Enter the traffic circle” “Turn around when possible” “You’ve reached your destination”.
However I have to say I don’t trust her and her directions that sometimes don’t make sense. For example “in 200 metres continue ahead” when there is not another way unless I want to crash into the guardrail; or when she tells me to take the fourth road at the traffic circle and there are only three, or she tells me turn to the right when I’m reading a huge sign on the road telling me to turn left.
Before buying the GPS I looked at the map before going on a trip, now I look at the map and program my GPS. And if I know well where I’m going I download the “English with British accent” version and I practice my oral comprensión which is always an advantage.
