Podcast 61. Comprar (Escuchar/ Listen)

Buy Buy Buy

We spend beyond our salaries. I read yesterday in a paper that Irish people spend 30 pc more than they earn.

I’m not really interested in “economy” and like most people do I switch the television off when I heard about the Dow Jone’s index closed sixty-three points down on…. But the real economy, the one we live in day by day is other matter.

How much do you save after paying taxes and purchasing the necessities of life? Not very much indeed, we have become “crazy” consumers, we don’t need so many things but we believe we need them.

Have you realized you have to choose from nine different kinds of toilet paper and sixteen different breakfast cereals in the supermarket? “Need” keeps the “Economy” and it seems that in Economics there is no concept for enough. We’ll never be completely satisfied.

Nearly half of my mails consists of bills, banks trying to lend me money and catalogues trying to make me spend it.

Lately a new trend has arised, the unhealthy is now healthy and they offer us organic products, organic food, organic clothes, green energy. The same companies that sold us food produced using chemical offer us organic food and we think the energy we use is green just because we use a special bulb. They never stop; everything is possible when we are talking about profitable business.

Teresa, tu tienes razon.
